SACH consists of a class taught by a Vacaville Unified School District teacher. In the class, you’ll learn about city government, civic engagement and obtain job readiness skills like resume writing and interviewing skills. You will also have an opportunity to participate in field trips to different city departments and/or other agencies.
In addition to the class, you will participate in an internship with the City of Vacaville or Vacaville Unified School District. Examples of departments are Utilities, Police, FIRE, Technology, Housing, Communications/Media, Planning, Public Works and Human Resources.
Mandatory Orientation: Monday, June 10th
Class will be held at City Hall – Council Chambers (where City Council meets) on the following days from 10-1pm.
· Week 1: June 11, 12, 13
· Week 2: June 17, 18, 20 *No session on 6/19 (Juneteenth)
· Week 3: June 25, 26, 27
· Week 4: July 1, 2, 3 (Monday-Wednesday)
*Lunch is included
The internship will be held on class dates starting at 1pm and ending at 4pm.

Yes, there will be an interview. It will help us get to know you and understand why you want to be part of SACH. Interviews will be held the week of April 15, 2024. We will contact you via email to schedule your interview.
You will be contacted shortly after your interview if you are moved to the reference and background check process. That will determine acceptance into the program. Selections will be made by the end of April.
*If you are selected you must attend a Mandatory Orientation on Monday, June 10, 2024.
If you are off-site, meaning your internship is somewhere that is not here at City Hall, we can provide transportation from class to your internship if needed.
You must arrange transportation home. But if this is an issue, please make sure to let staff know.
You are only allowed to miss 1 class and internship day. If you cannot attend 11 out of the 12 sessions you are not qualified to participate in the program. If you are enrolled and miss more than one session you are subject to dismissal from the program and/or may become ineligible to receive the stipend and elective credits.
